How HomeTomo Works

HomeTomo uses AI to virtually stage, redecorate, or clean up any room or outdoor space — from a single photo. This guide explains every feature and shares tips for getting the best possible results.

The Basic Workflow
1

Upload a Photo

Click Upload Original and choose a photo of the room or outdoor space you want to transform. A clear, well-lit shot taken straight-on gives the best results.

2

Choose Your Settings

Pick the space type, room type, design style, mood, and what kind of change you want. The more specific you are, the closer the result will be to your vision.

3

Apply

Hit the red Apply button. The AI processes your image — this usually takes 15–30 seconds. The result appears in the Generated Image panel on the left.

4

Enhance & Download

Fine-tune the result with the Image Enhancement sliders, remove any unwanted objects, then click Download Result to save your finished image.

Design Settings
Space

Choose Indoor for any interior room, or Outdoor for front yards, back yards, patios, and gardens. This changes the available room types and design styles to match.

Type

Select the specific room or area — Lounge, Kitchen, Master Bedroom, Front Yard, etc. Telling the AI what kind of space it's working with helps it choose appropriate furniture and layouts.

Style

The design aesthetic to apply. Indoor styles range from Sleek Modern and Airy Scandinavian to Cozy Farmhouse and Breezy Bohemian. Outdoor styles include Japanese Garden, Cottage Charm, and Timeless Native, among others.

Mood

Controls the lighting feel of the generated scene — from Bright Daytime and Soft Morning through to Warm Evening, Twilight, and Nighttime. Leave blank to let the AI decide based on the photo.

Room Size

Hint to the AI about how much space there is to work with — Small, Medium, Large, or Open Plan. Leave blank to let the AI infer it from the photo.

Additional Instructions

A free-text field for anything specific — "Add a large cream rug", "Keep the fireplace visible", "Use neutral tones". This is one of the most powerful controls — be as specific as you like.

Type of Change

Fill

Best for empty or sparsely furnished rooms. The AI adds furniture, décor, rugs, plants, and lighting to populate the space in your chosen style. The go-to mode for vacant property staging.

Tip: works best when there's plenty of empty floor space visible in the photo.

Replace

Best for furnished rooms you want to re-style. The AI replaces the existing furniture and décor with new items matching your chosen style, while keeping the room's structure intact.

Tip: works best when existing furniture is clearly visible and not heavily cluttered.

Declutter

Best for messy or overly busy spaces. The AI tidies the room by removing excess items, keeping essential furniture in place. Great for making a lived-in home look photo-ready.

Tip: use Additional Instructions to specify what to keep — e.g. "Keep the dining table and chairs".

Clear

Removes all furnishings to produce a bare, empty room. Useful when you want to show buyers a blank canvas, or as a first step before using Fill to re-stage from scratch.

Tip: Style and Type selections are less relevant here — Clear focuses purely on emptying the space.

Special Options

Add / Change Curtains

Toggles a request for the AI to add curtains or replace existing window treatments as part of the transformation. Works with both Indoor Fill and Replace. Use Additional Instructions to specify colour or style — e.g. "Linen drapes in soft white".

Add Sunset Sky

Outdoor only. Replaces a flat or overcast sky with a warm sunset — a quick way to dramatically lift the appeal of an outdoor photo. If you try to use this on an Indoor space, HomeTomo will let you know and turn it off automatically.

Image Enhancement

After the AI generates an image, fine-tune it with these sliders — all applied in real time. They adjust the pixel values of the result without re-running the AI.

Brightness

Makes the whole image lighter or darker. Default is 100 (no change). Useful when the generated image looks slightly dim.

Contrast

Increases or decreases the difference between light and dark areas. Higher contrast makes the image punchier; lower gives a softer, flatter look.

Exposure

Simulates camera exposure — pushing it up brightens the image overall. Pull it down to recover detail in overexposed shots.

Vibrance

Boosts colour saturation intelligently — it lifts muted colours more than vivid ones, so the result looks natural. Great for making a room feel warmer and more inviting.

Temperature

Slides between cool (blue) and warm (orange/yellow) tones. Drag right for a warmer, cosier feel; left for a cooler look.

Highlights

Adjusts only the brighter parts of the image. Pull down to recover blown-out windows; push up to make bright areas glow.

Shadows

Adjusts only the darker areas. Push up to lift shadow detail and brighten dark corners; pull down to deepen shadows for a moodier result.

Levels

Applies a gamma curve to the midtones. Pushing right brightens mid-range tones; pulling left darkens them for more depth.

HDR Aesthetic

A one-click look combining tone mapping, a saturation boost, and a clarity pass to give the image an HDR feel — richer colours, lifted shadows, and more perceived sharpness.

Object Removal

Paint over anything you want removed — a power socket, a smoke alarm, a stray chair — and the AI fills in the area naturally.

  1. 1.

    Activate the brush

Click Paint to Remove. The button turns blue to show the brush is active. You can paint on either the Original or the Generated image.

  2. 2.

    Adjust the brush size

A brush size slider appears. Use a larger brush than the object — covering slightly into the surrounding area helps the AI understand what to fill in with.

  3. 3.

    Paint over the object

Click and drag to paint a red mask over the object. Use Erase mode (turns amber) to unpaint any areas you accidentally covered. Click Clear to start the mask over entirely.

  4. 4.

    Click Remove

The AI removes the masked area and fills it in. The result appears in the Generated Image panel and is saved to History. If the result isn't clean enough, try again with a slightly bigger mask area.

History

Every generated image — whether from Apply or Object Removal — is saved to the History panel automatically. Click any entry to reload that image into the Generated panel and continue working from it, or use the trash icon to remove entries you no longer need.

Note: history is stored in your browser session only. Refreshing the page will clear it.

Tips for Best Results

Use well-lit, straight-on photos

Photos taken in natural daylight, without strong shadows or a heavily angled perspective, give the AI the clearest picture of the space to work with.

Be specific in Additional Instructions

Vague prompts produce generic results. "Add a navy velvet sofa facing the window and a round wooden coffee table" will outperform "add some furniture" every time.

Match the Type of Change to your photo

Fill works best on empty rooms. Replace works best when existing furniture is clearly visible. Using Fill on a cluttered room may produce unexpected results — try Declutter first.

Iterate — don't settle for the first result

The AI is generative, so every run produces a different result. If you're not happy, adjust a setting or tweak the instructions and hit Apply again. Previous results stay in History.

Use Enhancement after generation

AI images sometimes need a small brightness or vibrance lift to look their best. Try a quick HDR Aesthetic toggle or a slight temperature push to warm the scene up before downloading.

Paint generously for object removal

When removing an object, paint a mask slightly larger than the object itself. Including a bit of the surrounding context helps the AI fill the gap more convincingly.
